If you've ever been part of the oncology (aka cancer) world, you've undoubtedly heard many medical terms, abbreviations & acronyms that baffle (or just annoy) the general public. As a pediatric oncology nurse, I sometimes have to remind myself to use "layman's terms" as well and also not discuss the consistency of stool or describe wounds at the dinner table. One of the best abbreviations is NED. NED = No Evidence of Disease. It means there is no sign of cancer anywhere to be found. It's pretty awesome. It's what every cancer patient, oncologist, survivor and family member hopes to hear someday & forever.
It's what Jacob and I heard at his latest checkup with Dr. C, the surgical oncologist. The MRI & CXR (chest X-ray) were clear of any tumors. In another 6 months we'll do it all over again. This appt was 2 months shy of the 4 year mark for Jacob being cancer free. What an adventure our 5 years of marriage have been already!!!! So much has happened... It's been full of change, heartache, growth, blessings, joy, tears, traveling, hard work, and fun! This appt was different in that it wasn't just the 2 of us anymore -- Lily bug came too!
We are thrilled to announce that Jacob's scans continue to show NED! We rejoice and thank our good God who gives great gifts to His beloved children. The first and best being His only Son, Jesus. The second, each other, and thirdly, our beautiful daughter. She shared our excitement today:
