Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Well, J was recovering really well for 2 weeks....

We experienced a bit of a setback last night. His incision opened slightly (~1cm) and began draining yellowish fluid. Thankfully, we have a few first aid supplies around and were able to apply a dressing. Due to the amount of drainage, I've changed it about 7-8 times in the past 20 hours. He developed a low grade fever, as well as much more pain that he had been experiencing. Also, the incision is swollen and reddish (aka: appears slightly infected). First thing this morning, I called Dr. Quinn's nurse to let her know what was going on. They called in a prescription for antibiotics (Keflex) and basically said to keep doing what I'm doing.

J's been lying in bed all day, which is not like him at all. Even when he has the flu, he gets up & around more than this. We are alternating Percoset w/Motrin to decrease the inflammation as well as control his pain. Overall, the drainage is starting to slow, and he is still eating & drinking fairly well.  We are hoping the antibiotics work quickly.

Thank you for your prayers. And extra thanks to Mike and Blake for helping us out today!

*Please be praying for Eric & Beth Johnson, and their family. This afternoon, their 5 yr old son, Nolan, passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. Our hearts go out to them. As Beth posted on her FB status, "This sweet boy is resting in the arms of God now."

  1. You are such a great caregiver Meghan! I will be praying for the Johnson family in addition to my prayers for Jacob's recovery. It is so very hard to lose a child.
