Flooring Day #2

#6 contd... Alright, so day two began with laying the black vapor barrier -- I learned that this is standard underneath all genuine wood or laminate -- followed by the actual click-in/hammer process of laying the flooring (step #7!). We did a little at a time, putting the vapor barrier down as we went. Even though the instructions say to lay the flooring left to right, it doesn't make any sense since the boards click in to one another on the left side! SO, start in a right corner and go right to left. Here's what the first few rows looked like:

 

       We made great progress today, despite a few delays for challenging angle cuts. Jacob's parents came down from Santa Fe and helped us out as well. This is what it looked like by the end of the day...

 

      Pretty nifty, eh? It's starting to look really nice! And will be so much easier to clean.... As you can see in the left hand corner, there's an outlet in the floor that we are working around. The circle cut is actually not as hard as you think. The problem is that the concrete around that plug is somewhat raised, making the boards lie uneven and not fit together. We started by using a dremmel tool to grind down areas of the pad underneath the boards around the outlet. We may have to utilize a tool to grind down the concrete itself. Until tomorrow!
