Plan #2

Alright, so we now have a plan again! (woohoo!) Yesterday we had our long-awaited appt with Dr. V to discuss the next step. Surgery is still set for Feb 11th. About 3-4 weeks later, Jacob will have a follow-up CT scan to reassess for any residual disease. Around that time, we will also meet with Dr. V & Dr. Liem (the radiation oncologist). Sometime in the beginning-middle of March, they plan to start daily external radiation & weekly low-dose Cisplatin as initially planned last December. This will last about 6 weeks and all be done outpatient at the Cancer Center. Again, no central line will be necessary for chemotherapy.

The reason they returned to the initial plan is this: despite what the doctor in Boston said about the possibility of this being a new separate primary tumor, Dr. V and Dr. Quinn (surgeon) both agree that it is related to his first diagnosis 6 years ago. Dr. V believes that a cancer cell from the initial rhabdo tumor mutated & morphed into something that was resistant to all the chemo that Jacob received. It, being slow-growing, hung out in the near vicinity and eventually produced this current spindle cell sarcoma.

Currently, they are just letting Jacob heal further from the initial surgery and we don't anticipate any new developments for awhile. Thank you for all your continued prayers!
