The final pathology results are back. Unfortunately despite what the doctors said, this will change the plan for treatment. The sarcoma expert from Harvard described J's tumor as "an unclassified spindle cell sarcoma, of intermediate grade". He also believes it is a separate primary tumor - meaning that this is not a relapse of his first cancer (in his opinion). 'Intermediate grade' has to do with the speed/aggressiveness at which the tumor grows.
We are awaiting appts for the oncology surgeon & J's medical oncologist to find out what this really means for treatment. Based on what the radiation oncologist told us this morning on the phone, the first step is another surgery to further resect the area and any possible cancer cells that are hanging out there. The radiation/lowdose chemo is on hold for now. We have yet to discover whether J will require more aggressive chemo or what exactly they will recommend. I know this leaves lots of questions, but we will post more as soon as we find out!
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
