Gideon's First Week With Us

   To Recap, our Visa Appt at the US Embassy went very smoothly. The "interview" was like 5min and then it was just a lot of waiting around. We received all the paperwork we needed for his arrival in the US. Gideon even fell asleep in the Ergo carrier! We were told he didn't like carriers, but it was past nap time and I decided to try it. I'm so thankful it was comforting to him and he slept!!! 

  The next couple days we spent wandering around Insadong, Children's Grand Park, and the statues in the city center, around Gyeongbukgung Palace. We were blessed to spend time with new friends (another adoptive family from Australia) and visit a local church in Itaewon called Gospel City Church.

  Our travel day was extremely long and exhausting, but Gideon did great on the flights. {Thank you all for praying!} He took a couple short naps, ate snacks, colored, and watched cartoons without sound - the headphones we brought for him made him cry. We had a nice layover in Dallas and got some food, then hopped on our short 75min flight home to good ole' ABQ! PS - overall we did not have a very good experience with American Airlines and do not recommend flying with them.

   Thank you to many of you who welcomed us at the airport!!! Your smiles, hugs and help with luggage were a nice welcome back. We are SO glad to be home. Jacob and I brought our kids home and got everyone situated to sleep together in the living room. About 31 hours after our day began, as we were dizzy and nauseated from being so tired, we finally crashed. Gideon woke up a couple times crying but went back to sleep well and slept the rest of the night. 

  

  Gideon is doing a great as he begins to feel comfortable at home and as he continues to grow in his trust of us. He is napping very well, and goes to bed well. However, the past two nights has awoken in the middle of the night for a few hours (12-3am) before going back to sleep. We know it will take some time for his body to acclimate to the time difference. 

   Lily is doing well, but she is starting to get over the excitement of having a brother. Jacob had a heart to heart talk with her and she's having a hard time sharing us, our home and her toys. We are rejoicing though because we can see that she truly loves him and is a good big sister. Meanwhile he loves her so much as evidenced by his following her around, giving her random hugs, and laughing at her silliness. He also loves our dog, Ember. He will crawl into his dog bed with him, lean on him, hug him, feed him.... it is so sweet. Thankfully Ember is the best with kids -- so patient and gentle!
