Adoption Finances

I know a lot of people don't understand why adoptions are so expensive. We try to be open with the finances of everything and believe that is especially important when you are fundraising.

Our online AdoptTogether fundraising page shows that we currently have $14,678.00
$9000 of our current balance on the AdoptTogether fundraising page was already granted to us when we had to pay out the Child Acceptance Fee of $23,950 last fall. The site also requires 5% towards operating costs of this nonprofit, but it allows donors to get a tax-deduction from their gift.
This leaves us with:

$14,678 x 95% = $13,944.36 - $9,000 = $4,944.36  {online}

We have also have an Adoption savings account in which we personally set aside $ from our income, any personal checks from friends/family, and any money that we made from our Online Auction and Essential Oils fundraisers.

Savings Account = $5,200

Total funds = $10,144.36

Here is the breakdown for our travel expenses:

  • Airfare from Seattle to Seoul = $3,727
  • Airfare from ABQ to Seattle = Southwest Vouchers gifted to us {FREE}
  • 9 Nights Lodging in Seoul = $1,000
  • 2 Nights Lodging in Seattle = Marriott Points gifted to us {FREE}
  • Transportation in Seoul ~ $500
  • Food & Drink for 10days for 3 ~ $1,000
  • ESWS Donation $200-250
  • Gifts for Foster Family, Social Worker, Translators, Drivers, etc. ~ $100
  • Other Expenses ~$423
    Trip #1 >>> $7,000

      That leaves us with $3,144.36 for our 2nd Trip, which as you can see, probably won't even cover the flights. Luckily our stay will be shorter, resulting in less hotel, food, & transportation costs. But we also have post-placement follow up & legal fees to validate the adoption in the US courts once we arrive home.

Due to the short notice flights and our best estimates looking ahead, we anticipate needing to raise ~$4,000 more and saving another $1000 in the next 2months to cover the travel expenses for our 2nd trip and post-placement fees. We have edited our fundraising goal to reflect that, confident that we will be putting our new balance after Trip 1 back up to @ $8,000 or so.

    We will be organizing one last fundraiser called "Tag His Bag" in the coming days to help us do this. Please consider sharing it with your people or on your social media pages! Thank you all for your help. It truly takes a village! We are so grateful for any and every gift generously given towards our adoption!!
