A Special Heart for Valentines Day

Today we had Lily’s newborn checkup (which went great), as well as a Pediatric Cardiology consult. The docs noted a soft heart murmur, performed a 12lead EKG and Echo (ultrasound). Normally, newborns have 2 openings in utero that close w/i the first couple days after birth (a PFO & PDA). They found that Lily’s have not closed yet. They also noted 2 muscular VSD’s (ventricular septal defects) – meaning there are small openings between the 2 ventricles of the heart (not supposed to be there). Since she is eating well, breathing well and not having any problems, they are not going to intervene in anyway. They expect all 3 issues to close on their own and she will have all these tests repeated in 6 mons to make sure. But it is still a little concerning as new parents!!!!

Please pray that she would continue growing well and these heart issues would not cause any problems! Pray that Jesus will heal her heart physically and spiritually someday through salvation. Thank you all for the kind words, prayers and shared joy!

  1. Hope that they don't cause any issues and all resolve by her next appt!

(Kate had a small VSD that closed by the time she was 2. Very common from what we understand.)
