Just about four years ago, we were working on bringing home our daughter Lily, who would be born in Feb, 2014. It was definitely a tough experience as we were new to this whole process, struggled with the heartache of a birthmother who changed her mind, and didn't realize how much paperwork was required. God was faithful to provide financially through the generosity of others so we did not go into any debt. He matched us with an incredible birthmother (who we still see today) and gave us the most amazing little girl we ever could have imagined!!! We're so thankful!

As you read in Leslie's wonderful article, Jacob's cancer history was key. Not only did it lead us to starting with adoption in the first place, but his relapse meant that we would adopt a child locally. We wanted to go to Korea but they have strict health requirements and it wasn't an option until J was declared "in remission and healthy for 5 years". We look back and see that if his cancer hadn't come back, we wouldn't be Lily's parents today. God is so good!!!!
After Jacob hit the 5 year mark in June, 2015, Korean adoption was back on the table, but we were content with our sweet 16month old for the time being. As Lily was approaching her 2nd birthday, we started looking into what we would need to do in order to start the international process since we knew it would take a couple years.

On Feb 5th, we submitted our pre-application to the AAC agency based out of CO, who coordinates US adoptions
from Korea (for the SW). They took our packet and sent it to the Korean agency, ESWS, on
Feb 9th, and said we should hear something within 2-3 weeks. Korea has
to approve all families outside of CO who want to apply. They also
require letters from doctors for anyone with a complex medical history to
see if you will be a healthy candidate who is likely to be approved by
the Korean Family Court at the end of everything. Less than 48hrs later on Feb 11th, we got a call from our case manager at AAC, Regina, with great
news! Korea already said YES and approved us!!!! Wow, God can move fast!
We were praying for a clear answer if this was God's plan for us and He
couldn't have been more clear!
Since then, we have completed the formal application packet from AAC, as well as the application packet for Adoptions Plus and submitted lots of forms, documents, copies, etc. We also just had our first home study interview this past week!!!!
